What makes him a revolutionary: Without Zamyatin authors such as Orwell, Huxley and Vonnegut may not have contributed such great works to the world of literature. They were all inspired by his most famous novel, We, which was written as an accompaniment to the battles he fought for the revolution against communism in his homeland, Russia. His multiple arrests and exiles proved his loyalty to a cause which he felt to be much more important than himself and, although his constant fighting and pushing may not have made him popular during his own lifetime, he remains arguably the most important figurehead for dystopian fiction today. He could even be deemed as the father of the genre, the catalyst that brought about a generation of revolutionary writers.
